1 cup oat meal
1 cup wheat flour
1/2 stick (4 tbsp) salt-free butter
3 tsp baking powder
1 cup milk or water
In a clean, dry blender, grind the oatmeal until it becomes a fine
flour.
Add the baking powder and wheat flower and blend until it is evenly
mixed.
Dump the dry mixture into a mixing bowl.
Chop the butter into small pieces and add to the mixture.
Add the milk or water and mix until it forms a soft ball. If you do not
break up the butter, the biscuits will be more flaky.
Turn the ball onto a floured board and roll to 1/2" thickness, then cut
and place on a baking sheet.
-or-
Roll between the palms of your hands to form 1-1/2" balls and press
them onto a baking sheet, pressing them to a 1/2" thickness.
Bake 15 minutes at 450 degrees.
Gravy:
1/2 lb pork sausage (I prefer Jimmy Dean because it is less greasy)
2 cups milk (I use 2%)
2 tbsp corn starch (or use flour if you prefer)
Brown the sausage in a large pan. As it cooks, chop the sausage
into bite-sized pieces with a spoon or spatula.
After the sausage is fully cooked, add 1 cup of the milk and allow it
to heat as you prepare the corn starch mixture.
In a separate container, mix the corn starch with the other cup of milk
and have it ready.
Stir the milk and sausage mixture until the milk comes to a boil.
Be prepared to remove it from the heat quickly if it foams up.
When the millk is boiling, quickly add the other cup of milk with the
dissolved corn starch and keep stirring until the mixture thickens.
Add ground, black pepper to suit your taste.
When the gravy is thickened, pour it over the biscuists and enjoy!
Variation: add chopped onion or garlic when you start to fry the
sausage.
